Aztec Achievement Award - Brian Escobar-Santos
March 2, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Brian has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics
(Ms. Estrada) Brian is very polite and has a great sense of humor. He is quiet in class, stays after school to catch up and is respectful to his teachers and peers. I look forward to seeing Brian continue to grow while at Alta.
(Ms. Lewis) Brian is a pleasure to have in class. Over the last few months, he has started putting it into high gear. He is always asking for help to ensure he understands the concepts. Brian is always trying in class and has an "I can do it" attitude. Brian, keep up the good work.
(Mr. Phillips) Brian is a good person. I consistently see him put others before himself and go out of his way to make sacrifices for his friends and family. I’m impressed with his selflessness and maturity.
(Mr. V) I am impressed with Brian's growth over the course of this school year. Brian has gone from a student who was not engaged in English class and because of this, suffered in silence when it was time to complete assignments. Since then, Brian has been more vocal about wanting to be a more productive student. He asks questions when he is stuck, he looks for ways to improve his work, and completes assignments outside of class. Brian is just scratching the surface of what he is capable of.
Congratulations, Brian, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!
Last Friday was the MTC Group Mentoring First Field Trip to Movement! Students enjoyed rock climbing instructed by our very own MTC Manager Mela! After a fun time rock climbing, students had a special picnic waiting for them at Cuesta Park where our awesome mentors had Chick-fil-A and goodies! Thank you to Miss Alba and all our MTC mentors.

We have our Spring Semester Alta Vista Reward Trip, and we’re spending the day at Tech Interactive in San Jose. We want EVERYONE to attend - where we’ll have fun exploring four stories of exhibits like Body Worlds Decoded and Dream Garden AI immersive exhibit, and watching a supersized, dome iMAX movie. At the same time, we’ll be earning points in our subject classes like science, English and more. To earn the reward trip, it’s simple. Meet your magic number goal in Week 6, 8 or 10 tracking! Our field trip is Thursday, March 31 - and you know if you attend daily and participate in your classes (with phone away) you’ll not only earn Alta dollars, but also the Spring Reward Trip.

This Tuesday, March 10, all 10th/11th graders attend the Foothill College Fair Field Trip. There will be 100 colleges and universities at Foothill College sharing information about their schools. This is a great opportunity to learn about possibilities for after high school!
***GUARDIANS - PLEASE SIGN THE FIELD TRIP PERMISSION FORM EMAILED TO YOU, or brought home by your student.***

Programs with Stanford University (April - June):

Interested in going to a community college or four-year college? Looking for a mentor to talk to you about life as a college student? You are invited to join the Stanford Splash Spring 2026 Virtual Mentorship Program! Over the course of three months (April through June), we will pair you with a current Stanford student based on your academic interests and backgrounds, and you will meet with your mentor once a month over Zoom. You can talk to your mentor about anything: attending community college vs. a four-year college, applying to schools, and finding jobs after college. Please fill out this form by Friday, 3/13 at 11:59 pm if you are interested!
The Stanford Splash Spring 2026 Program will be taking place on 4/11-4/12 on the Stanford University campus! Splash is a program where Stanford students teach classes to high schoolers on anything and everything! With classes like Intro to Journalism, Poetry Workshops, Cooking With Chemistry: the Science of Food, and Juggling 101, Splash offers a wide variety of classes designed to get students excited about learning! If you're interested in participating in our upcoming program, please make an account and sign up through our website (https://stanfordesp.org/).
If you need help filling out the application or fee waiver for either opportunity, see Ms Wallace
*** HIRING *** HIRING *** HIRING ***

Movement in Mountain View is Hiring - work with kids!
Positions are 6-8 hours/week, typically on weekends, school breaks, and after school, 3:45-6:15pm.
Apply HERE!
Great for developing customer service skills, leadership/presentation skills, and experience working with children (ages 6-12). Also a great community to work with/for a first or early job. Many of the employees are young adults/students who value community, the inclusive culture, and exercise/play.
You don't have to be a climber. They hire people who have zero experience climbing. (Even though it's an "instructor" role; it's just with kids, and they train you how to instruct the kids.)
It's also right by a bus stop and they have bike parking.

Leadership Opportunities for Next year
We are seeking thoughtful and engaged 8th through 12th graders who: live in Santa Clara County, are interested in learning more about County government, and can elevate the needs of youth in the community. The Youth Task Force mission is to provide a forum for youth voice and to inform and influence policy decisions by the Board of Supervisors and County administrators for issues impacting youth.
This is an amazing opportunity for youth to learn more about civic engagement, local government processes, and how to effect change through policy recommendations. Learn more about the activities of the Youth Task Force on our website here: https://ssa.santaclaracounty.gov/about-us/committees-commissions-and-councils/youth-task-force
