Aztec Achievement Award - Kim Cristobal Calderon
February 23, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Kim has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics:
(Ms. Estrada) This year, Kim is a completely new student. Her attendance has improved alongside her consistency with her school work. She has made progress in point earnings across all of her social studies classes and has even challenged herself to be more talkative in class discussion, which shows incredible growth. Keep up the good work Kim!
(Ms. Filbert) Kim has made tremendous progress in her science class. She is noticeably more motivated and consistently works through her module readings and activities with focus and determination. Each time I check in, she is diligently taking notes and staying engaged in her work. As a result of her effort and commitment, she is earning significantly more points. I am very proud of you, Kim — keep up the excellent work!
(Ms. Lewis) Kim, you have been doing awesome this year in math. You have already completed one box and are on your way to completing the next box. Your work ethic has been phenomenal, and you have shown real growth over this last year. Keep up the good work.
(Mr. Luy) When Kim is present in class, she settles in and begins working without disruption. She shows a willingness to try even when tasks are challenging.
Congratulations, Kim, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!
We have our Spring Semester Alta Vista Reward Trip, and we’re spending the day at Tech Interactive in San Jose. We want EVERYONE to attend - where we’ll have fun exploring four stories of exhibits like Body Worlds Decoded and Dream Garden AI immersive exhibit, and watching a supersized, dome iMAX movie. At the same time, we’ll be earning points in our subject classes like science, English and more. To earn the reward trip, it’s simple. Meet your magic number goal in Week 6, 8 or 10 tracking! Our field trip is Thursday, March 31 - and you know if you attend daily and participate in your classes (with phone away) you’ll not only earn Alta dollars, but also the Spring Reward Trip.

We have our all 10th/11th grade Foothill College Field Trip coming on Tuesday, March 10. There will be 100 colleges and universities at Foothill College sharing information about their schools. This is a great opportunity to learn about possibilities for after high school!
***GUARDIANS - PLEASE SIGN THE FIELD TRIP PERMISSION FORM EMAILED TO YOU TODAY.***

Seniors, did you know that only at Alta Vista, do all seniors complete a Foothill College course before high school graduation? Next Friday, March 6, during Advisory, you will attend our first info session about our senior class Foothill College course. We will also assist you through Foothill College dual-enrollment registration. The course will occur right after April Spring Break, while 10th and 11th graders have special schedules for CAASP testing and counseling sessions. More information to come.

Interested in going to a community college or four-year college? Looking for a mentor to talk to you about life as a college student? You are invited to join the Stanford Splash Spring 2026 Virtual Mentorship Program! Over the course of three months (April through June), we will pair you with a current Stanford student based on your academic interests and backgrounds, and you will meet with your mentor once a month over Zoom. You can talk to your mentor about anything: attending community college vs. a four-year college, applying to schools, and finding jobs after college. Please fill out this form by Friday, 3/13 at 11:59 pm if you are interested!
The Stanford Splash Spring 2026 Program will be taking place on 4/11-4/12 on the Stanford University campus! Splash is a program where Stanford students teach classes to high schoolers on anything and everything! With classes like Intro to Journalism, Poetry Workshops, Cooking With Chemistry: the Science of Food, and Juggling 101, Splash offers a wide variety of classes designed to get students excited about learning! If you're interested in participating in our upcoming program, please make an account and sign up through our website (https://stanfordesp.org/).
