Aztec Achievement Award - Dylan Rodriguez Garcia
February 9, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Dylan has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics:
(Ms. Estrada) This year, Dylan has made great changes towards his attitude about school and his effort towards his school work. In US History, he has increased his points overall and contributes to a lively and fun environment with his peers.
(Mr. Phillips) Dylan knows how to be successful in school. He brings his street-smarts to the classroom and applies them to the reading and writing tasks. He’s even taught me a few things and put me on to a few of his favorite musicians.
(Mr. V) I am so proud of the growth I have seen in Dylan. Since the start of the semester, he has been focused in both of his English classes. He attends class regularly and on time. He has taken personal responsibility for his education by working bell to bell, sitting himself in a class location that enables him to focus, and he consistently works to complete assignments he has started. If Dylan can apply his newfound attitude to all facets of his academics, I have no doubt that Dylan can consistently be a top point earner at Alta Vista.
(Mrs. Woolfolk) Your attendance and efforts have become more consistent, and you know that the dedication you show now will pay of BIGTIME your senior year! Keep it up!
Congratulations, Dylan, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!
Would you like to coach basketball and get paid for it?
LASD Elementary is looking for high school students to coach their basketball teams. You do not need to have a lot of basketball experience to coach.
2 days per week, starting March 2. Practices and games are Monday and Wednesday, 3:15-5:00pm. Season runs about 8 weeks.
1 coach per team -- paid $500
2 coaches per team -- paid $300 each (for those who don't want to coach alone)
Most seasons, if you do a good job, you will get an extra bonus from parents at the end of the season
If you're interested, talk to Ms Wallace for more information.

MVLA In-seat Summer School sign-ups are coming soon. If you’re needing to catch up on this or last year’s courses, you’ll be assigned to summer school. Get moving in your classwork and 6th periods to avoid summer school from June 10 through July 9, 2026!

We have new, updated 6th period assignments next week, and we will only have 6th period this Thursday due to special schedules, so you have LOTS of time to catch up this weekend or work with teachers during lunch to release you from a potential assignment! Show up for yourself and your goals!
Mrs. Woolfolk directs other alternative programs, such as Freestyle Academy and Foothill Middle College, which are accepting applications from current 10th and 11th graders right now! Are you interested in a tour? Let Mrs. Woolfolk or the Office know if you want to visit Freestyle or Middle College, and are thinking about applying!
