Alta Vista Updates - January 30, 2026

Posted Date: 01/30/26 (09:12 AM)

Hello Alta Vista Families and Students,

By now, you may be aware that students throughout the area may be planning to participate in potential walkouts today.

These are not school-sponsored events and students who miss class will be marked absent. However, if students participate, parents may choose to excuse their student’s absences.

Alta Vista staff members are here to ensure the safety of our students on campus, and local law enforcement is aware of local walkout events. We firmly believe that the safest place for our students is the school and classroom during school hours, and we want to keep our students safe.

Here is some guidance that we have provided to our staff members this afternoon:

  • School staff are not authorized to lead students in a walkout and will not be required to supervise.

  • While we recognize and respect our students' right to free speech, District employees should not organize, promote, endorse, or encourage students to participate in any student demonstration, distribution of materials of a political nature, sit-in, or walk-out.

  • Staff should not try to stop students from walking out.

  • Administrators may not authorize staff to accompany students for the purpose of staff engaging in political activity (e.g. hold protest signs).

Thank you for your continued support!

This coming week, mark your calendars, as we have modified bell schedules for Tuesday and Wednesday to support staff professional development and learning:

Aztec Achievement Award - Tiblet Shuler

January 26, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers,  Tiblet has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award forthe following outstanding values and characteristics:

(Ms. Estrada) Tiblet is a consistent hard worker in US History. She uses her time wisely and gets her work done.

(Mr. Luy) Tiblet has made great progress in speaking up more and trying things outside of her comfort zone, such as joining the Sports team.

(Mr. V) While I do not have Tiblet in class, I do see Tiblet on campus, and we often exchange greetings. Tiblet seems consistently engaged in school work, has a clear direction when walking on campus, and smiles more than I witnessed all last school year. This alone makes me proud that Tiblet is making strides to grow and be a more successful student.

(Mrs. Woolfolk) We are lucky to have you in our classes, and it is rewarding to see you try new activities and sports, and to see you engage with your classmates. Tiblet, I’m proud of your growth in learning, and also the resilience you show!

Congratulations, Tiblet, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!

This past Wednesday, our students with the top attendance and fewest morning tardies got rewarded with an amazing day at Sky Zone! They earned PE points on zip lines, playing trampoline dodgeball, and battling and jumping in spong pits. Thank you to our chaperones, Miss Alba and Miss Wallace!

MVLA In-seat Summer School sign-ups are coming soon. If you’re needing to catch up on this or last year’s courses, you’ll be assigned to summer school. Get moving in your classwork and 6th periods to avoid summer school from June 10 through July 9, 2026!

We have new, updated 6th period assignments next week, and we will only have 6th period this Thursday due to special schedules, so you have LOTS of time to catch up this weekend or work with teachers during lunch to release you from a potential assignment! Show up for yourself and your goals!

Mrs. Woolfolk directs other alternative programs, such as Freestyle Academy and Foothill Middle College, which are accepting applications from current 10th and 11th graders right now! Are you interested in a tour? Let Mrs. Woolfolk or the Office know if you want to visit Freestyle or Middle College, and are thinking about applying!
