Aztec Achievement Award - Mauro Rojas
November 2, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Mauro has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics:
(Ms. Estrada) When first period can feel lonely with no students, Mauro helps make it feel alive. Mauro has some of the best attendance this year and is on time, ready to roll. Mauro is consistent in his efforts and doesn't give up. When he faces a challenge in the assignment, he seeks support until he understands. He is friendly, respectful and always so responsible with our phone policy. I appreciate his daily commitments to school and his motivation to reach his academic goals.
(Ms. Filbert) Mauro is a friendly student who, though quiet, consistently demonstrates a willingness to participate. He is always willing to read or offer an answer, even if he isn't sure it's correct. He completes all of his work on time, asks for missing work as soon as he returns from an absence, and takes the initiative to ask for extra credit. The effort, consistency, and hard work he brings to the Earth Science class do not go unnoticed.
(Mr. V) Although I do not have Mauro in class, I have known Mauro since summer school 2025. I am proud that Mauro makes the effort to balance his school, work, and personal responsibilities. Mauro's effort this school year is a prime example for anyone, at any age, that all of us can make time for our goals despite the challenges we encounter.
(Mrs. Woolfolk) Mauro, you began the year with a choice. You chose to believe in yourself and your goal to graduate from high school. Every day you work hard counts, and what you are learning now in school will mean so much to your future!
Congratulations, Mauro, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!
AVHS MTC Group Mentoring Program had their annual trip to Filloli and had a great time discovering the grounds! Every student received a full year membership that includes admission for themselves and family/friends! Thank you Ms.Mela and MTC for making this possible!

AVHS Leadership and LAHS SCL came together for the collaboration of our Fall Festival! Students decorated fall cookies, planted succulent plants, enjoyed cotton candy and a friendly competitive game of volleyball! Special thanks to Ms.Lewis and Culinary class for baking delicious cookies!

Congratulations to Alex A., our winner of the 49ers vs Raiders football game VIP tickets. Alex’s name was drawn from our student group with excellent attendance in October (90% of periods in school or better)!
Congratulations, AVHS Volleyball Team! You made it to playoffs today, and brought that trophy home! If you're interested in joining our next sports season (soccer), please sign up with the AVHS Office.

E-bike Safety Information from MVPD |
Our partners at MVPD have provided us with valuable information on E-bike safety in both English and Spanish. These brochures cover the different types of E-bikes, E-motos and E-scooters. These brochures discuss legal requirements to ride (ie. minimum age, driver license, etc.) and where they can be legally operated. There are also several short Transportation Safety Videos on the Police Department website that cover similar information.
We encourage families to discuss E-bike safety with their students so we can keep MVHS and our surrounding community safe.
