Alta Vista Updates - September 18, 2026
This week, seniors attended their first college visit of the year. AVHS toured beautiful San Francisco State to learn more about the CSU system and resources of the four-year university
In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Joseph has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics:
(Ms. Estrada) Joseph is a wonderful student who is an absolute pleasure to have in class. From his very first day in US History, he has completed every single assignment that I have assigned and is routinely taking work home to make sure it's completed in a timely manner. He asks for support and feedback throughout and it is clear that he is making a critical sense of our historical topics. Although he is new, he has started his studies here with a great work ethic and incredibly respectful and mature attitude. I can't wait to see how the rest of the year goes for him!
(Ms. Filbert) Joseph is a model student. He is engaged, asks questions, participates often, and completes all of his assignments, submitting high-quality work. He genuinely appears interested in learning and in his classes, which is a breath of fresh air. He is kind, well-mannered, friendly, and a pleasure to teach. He is setting himself up for a very successful junior year. Keep up the great work!
(Ms. Lewis) Since day one, Joseph has come to class willing to work and learn the concepts being taught. Joseph goes above and beyond in class, asking for help and making sure that he understands what is being presented. Joseph is diligent in his work, and this trait is helping him to master concepts with ease. Joseph, you are crushing it; keep up the good work.
(Mr. Phillips) Joseph knows what kind of reading he enjoys, and approaches his classwork with calmness and curiosity. It seems he is always wondering, “what can I learn from this?”, which makes his education so much more valuable.
(Mr. V) Joseph is all about business. He shows up on time. He works bell to bell, and he even asks for more work after class. I am most impressed with Joseph's attitude. He is kind, respectful, and thoughtful when speaking with his teachers and peers. Joseph is a great example of how Alta Vista students should conduct themselves while at school.
Congratulations, Joseph, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!
Announcement about Tardies: keep up that effort and arrive prior to the 9am late bell! If for any reason you need to arrive late to school, you need to check your phone into the classroom pocket chart as you enter. If you arrive after 9:10am, you will need to present our teacher with both our pink tardy slip AND cell phone as you enter.
Sixth Period is every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday until 3:30pm and your teachers are here to help you learn and earn! Every Thursday, you can also earn PE points. Come work out with Mr. Luy in the MPR for Thursday 6th periods: lift weights, play badminton or pickleball, or get a workout walking, biking or stairclimbing and earn those points. More 6th period activities or assignments will be announced each month, so be on the lookout!

Check out a Chromebook for your online class (health, Spanish, etc,). Families, many students need health credits to graduate, and we have 35 students completing it online. You should see them working at home (or hear about them using lunch time) on their online health courses.
Join your local Community Services Agency in a fun evening for the entire family!
