Aztec Achievement Award - Claudia Villalobos Rivera

March 23, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Claudia has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics:

(Ms. Estrada) Claudia has made much progress since starting at Alta Vista. She is focused on the big picture of graduating on time and using her class time efficiently to reach those goals.

(Ms. Filbert) Claudia is a kind and thoughtful student who is truly a pleasure to teach. Like many students, she has faced challenges in her academic journey, but she continues to demonstrate resilience and determination. She has shown great perseverance by completing her online coursework and consistently giving her best effort when she is present in class.

(Ms. Lewis) Claudia is great to have in class.  Not only is she always working hard to complete her assignments, but she is also always willing to help other students.  Each day, Claudia comes in ready to put in the effort to complete her courses.  It is great to see how hard she is working, and I can't wait to see what she does after high school.

(Mr. Luy) Claudia is a respectful student who consistently shows kindness toward both her peers and teachers. She has strong organizational skills and neat, thoughtful penmanship that reflect the care she puts into her work.

(Mr. Phillips) Claudia is a brave young woman who shows continuous improvement.  She has overcome numerous obstacles over the course of her educational career.  She adapts to new situations without complaint or despair.  She just does what needs to be done.

Congratulations, Claudia, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!

DAILY ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL APRIL 13-17, AFTER SPRING BREAK

HERE’S WHY:

Seniors will be taking their first Foothill College class, here on the Alta Vista campus. The “Exploring Careers” college class will be an opportunity to learn about various career paths you might follow after graduation AND will provide seniors with the experience of:

  • Applying to Foothill College

  • Registering for a class

  • And completing a college class

…all before you graduate from high school!

The seniors’ Foothill College class is only 5 days long, the week we come back from spring break, and is worth 1 unit of college credit and 2 high school credits. After the class, there will also be help available planning your path at Foothill after you graduate. So be ready to take advantage of this amazing opportunity when we come back from spring break!

Juniors, regardless of credit status, will participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) between April 14-17. Attendance on all four days is essential, and students have the opportunity to earn up to (10) credits on their transcripts for proving their learning! The assessment results allow us to evaluate student achievement on State standards and identify challenges to better serve students. Questions? Please contact suzanne.woolfolk@mvla.net

Learn more about these tests here or read the MVLA CAASPP Notice

Sophomores will earn (2) additional credits in health/elective by participating in Teen Talk High School starting April 13. This is a 10-12 hour comprehensive sexual health education course developed by Health Connected, and meets California’s Health Education Content Standards for “Growth, Development, and Sexual Health.” See more info here.

Sophomores will also have their academic counseling meetings, other important presentations, and complete past-due classwork if needed.

We will provide special morning breakfasts, treats through the day

and be holding raffles to win gift card prizes, as well.

Make sure you get plenty of sleep and arrive by 9am!

Alta Spring Reward Trips to SJ Tech Interactive is this Tuesday, March 31, and we need your field trip forms in! Participant names are below:
