Alta Vista Updates - March 19, 2026

Posted Date: 03/19/26 (01:31 PM)

Hello Alta Vista,

Reminder: we have no school tomorrow, March 20, in MVLA District. We will see you back on AVHS campus Monday, March 23, at 9am!

Also, mark your calendars for Spring Break (no school April 6-10).

Aztec Achievement Award - Randy Arriola Quinteros

March 16, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Randy has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Awardfor the following outstanding values and characteristics:

(Ms. Estrada) After a busy day of classes, Randy approaches 5th period like it's the only class he's had all day. He is always full of energy and his laughter can be contagious to his peers. I appreciate his wit and his consistency with his academic effort.

(Ms. Filbert) Randy has consistently been one of my most engaged students in Science. His attendance is excellent, and he has made great improvements in managing his time in class, often completing assignments ahead of schedule. I can always count on him to participate thoughtfully and demonstrate some great recall of the material we have covered.

(Ms. Lewis) It is a pleasure to have Randy in math class.  Every day, he comes in and is willing to ask for and receive help with the topics he is covering.  Randy's hard work over the last couple of months has led him to make great strides in math.  Randy, keep up the great work.

(Mr. Phillips) Randy is courageous in the classroom.  He consistently earns points and helps to drive discussion in a creative direction.

(Mr. V) Congrats on winning the Aztec Achievement Award! IT IS ALL YOUR FAULT. You are a hard-working student who cares about your academics.  Your contributions to class discussions further class understanding.  While socializing can be an issue, you have been more consistent in making sure your interactions with your peers are geared to completing your work. Keep working hard, keep pushing yourself, and when you graduate, that will also be all YOUR FAULT TOO.

Congratulations, Randy, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!

Get in your last work to count toward Week 10 grade reports! Advisors are selecting Reward Trip participants based on Week 6, 8, and/or 10 progress. YOU CAN DO IT!

DAILY ATTENDANCE IS CRITICAL APRIL 13-17, AFTER SPRING BREAK

HERE’S WHY:

Seniors will be taking their first Foothill College class, here on the Alta Vista campus. The “Exploring Careers” college class will be an opportunity to learn about various career paths you might follow after graduation AND will provide seniors with the experience of:

  • Applying to Foothill College

  • Registering for a class

  • And completing a college class

…all before you graduate from high school!

The seniors’ Foothill College class is only 5 days long, the week we come back from spring break, and is worth 1 unit of college credit and 2 high school credits. After the class, there will also be help available planning your path at Foothill after you graduate. So be ready to take advantage of this amazing opportunity when we come back from spring break!

Juniors, regardless of credit status, will participate in the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) between April 14-17. Attendance on all four days is essential, and students have the opportunity to earn up to (10) credits on their transcripts for proving their learning! The assessment results allow us to evaluate student achievement on State standards and identify challenges to better serve students. Questions? Please contact suzanne.woolfolk@mvla.net

Learn more about these tests here or read the MVLA CAASPP Notice

Sophomores will earn (2) additional credits in health/elective by participating in Teen Talk High School starting April 13. This is a 10-12 hour comprehensive sexual health education course developed by Health Connected, and meets California’s Health Education Content Standards for “Growth, Development, and Sexual Health.” See more info here.

Sophomores will also have their academic counseling meetings, other important presentations, and complete past-due classwork if needed.

We will provide special morning breakfasts, treats through the day

and be holding raffles to win gift card prizes, as well.

Make sure you get plenty of sleep and arrive by 9am!

Students with work permits: Mrs. Woolfolk is visiting employers/managers, so you need to make sure you are maintaining daily attendance (and grades) to keep your CA work permit. This weekend, Mrs. Woolfolk may be hungry for In-n-Out Burger, and a bit of Chipotle, perhaps more. So…get your priorities together - there’s no work permit without school coming first.

Silicon Valley CTE, the same program we send students yearlong in the afternoons to for career training, is offering summer sessions! This is a HUGE opportunity for you to explore a career in a state-of-the-art school built for CTE, and you can earn elective points at the same time. See Ms. Wallace for more information by Monday - there are limited scholarship spots.
