Aztec Achievement Award - Pablo Sandoval Perez
March 9, 2026

In the words of our Alta Vista teachers, Pablo has been awarded the Aztec Achievement Award for the following outstanding values and characteristics:
(Ms. Estrada) Pablo! These past couple of weeks, you are showing up and showing out as an entirely new student in US History. You come in with this productive mindset and you challenge yourself to take each day as a new opportunity to create and sustain your scholarly habits. I appreciate your ability to work through the topics and being the low-key, undercover comedian that you are! I want to see more of this Pablo because I am impressed!
(Ms. Lewis) Pablo, this year you have shown such growth. When you are in class, you sit down and get started on your work right away. When you are stuck, you are always asking for help, not only to move on to the next problem but also to understand the topic you are working on. Pablo, keep up the good work, and I can't wait to see what you do next year.
(Mr. Luy) When Pablo is present, he demonstrates positive classroom behavior. He is polite and respectful toward peers and staff, and remains on task during class activities. He works from bell to bell and completes assigned work with focus.
(Mr. Phillips) Pablo is his own man. He has friends in class, but doesn’t let them derail him from his responsibilities. He is engaged in the reading and the discussions, and it shows. I love having him in my class.
(Mr. V) Pablo has always been nice, respectful, and well-liked by his peers, but a bit of a mystery since I never worked with Pablo in a classroom setting. While not the most outspoken student, Pablo's facial expressions and body language communicate that he is engaged and focused. When called upon to contribute to class discussion, Pablo always provides examples and commentary that deepen class thought. I am happy to have Pablo as an addition to our class and see him as a leader. Keep up the good work!
Congratulations, Pablo, and family! We are very proud of your accomplishments at Alta Vista High School!
AVHS art students and Ms. Filbert are in the news! Read here from the Palo Alto Weekly and The Almanac about their work this year around Nature Journaling, and its importance in art and beyond.

AVHS welcomed MVHS administrators, Dr. Glazer and Dr. Morelli, as well as Ms. Amaya Atayde, on campus this week. They surprised senior Oscar De La Cruz with a surprise gift and visit to show how proud they are of his hard work toward graduation!

Congratulations to Oscar, our newest AVHS graduate!

Students with work permits: Mrs. Woolfolk is visiting employers/managers, so you need to make sure you are maintaining daily attendance (and grades) to keep your CA work permit. This weekend, Mrs. Woolfolk may be hungry for In-n-Out Burger, and a bit of Chipotle, perhaps more. So…get your priorities together - there’s no work permit without school coming first.
Silicon Valley CTE, the same program we send students yearlong in the afternoons to for career training, is offering summer sessions! This is a HUGE opportunity for you to explore a career in a state-of-the-art school built for CTE, and you can earn elective points at the same time. See Ms. Wallace for more information by Monday - there are limited scholarship spots.

Today in Advisory, talk to your advisor to see if you’re on your way to the Alta Reward Trip! Advisors can help you know if you have met your grad progress goal or magic number in Week 6 or 8, or they can help you set a grad progress goal for Week 10 tracking! Our field trip to The Tech Interactive in San Jose is Thursday, March 31 - and you have one more week to qualify - any work you put in for Week 10 tracking can earn you our Reward Trip to The Tech Interactive!
